Nel mio primo post avevo annunciato che in questo blog ci sarebbe stata una sezione intitolata “thanks, science!” in cui si approfondivano alcune scoperte scientifiche che hanno portato un beneficio alla comunità umana. Onestamente non è che gli schermi LCD siano un vero e proprio beneficio per l’umanità.. ma di sicuro hanno migliorato la qualità del nostro intrattenimento quotidiano.
In questo VIDEO – che trae spunto da un talk tenuto alla SISSA dalla dott.ssa Mariarita De Luca – ho provato a spiegare ai profani (come me) come funzionano questi schermi LCD che ci circondano: dalle televisioni ultrapiatte del nostro salotto, agli smartphone che abbiamo in tasca, al pc su cui state leggendo queste righe. Sentirete parlare di Smart Materials – materiali intelligenti – polimeri, polarizzatori, ordine nematico… tutte cose che per la maggior parte di noi sono un grande mistero, ma su cui la scienza sta puntando tantissimo per migliorare la qualità della nostra futura tecnologia, bioingegneria compresa.
